Dr Lee Clatworthy graduated with a history degree before undertaking an MA in Historical Studies at Southampton University.  Further study led to the award of her PhD for her research entitled Henry Temple first Viscount Palmerston (1676-1757) the man and his household examined through the Broadlands Estate papers.  Having a wide and varied experience of administration, she decided to combine the two elements in following a career in academic administration.  She was employed at the Textile Conservation Centre as the Conservation Services secretary, moving over to all round administration as the conservation services were wound up due to the closure of the centre.
