Exciting New Masters in Dress and Textile Histories

The MLitt in Dress and Textile Histories, a one year course which begins in September 2011, is now accepting applications for places on the course.  **As this will be the first year the programme has run, overseas applicants will benefit from a special discount of £1,000 on the normal fee (which is £11,500 for o/s students) - this is available for 2011-12 students only**

This exciting course explores textile production and consumption, fashion, taste, gender, ecclesiastic and civic interiors as well as shops and shopping.  The course leader, Rebecca Quinton, also works as Curator, European Textiles and Dress at Glasgow Museums.  

If you are fascinated by the history of dress and textiles and want to learn about all aspects of curation, interpretation and preservation of dress and textiles in museums then this is the course for you. You will undertake a work placement as part of the course, this will give you a fantastic opportunity to put your new knowledge into practice and will enable you to begin the development of your professional network.

The Glasgow area was a major centre for the textile and clothing industry and its museums have internationally significant textile and dress collections.  Students will have unique access to these collections, including the Burrell Collection, as well as to the business and design archives in Glasgow University's Archives Services.  There will also be contributions from the National Museums of Scotland - which includes the National Museum of Costume at Shambellie House -  Paisley Museum and Art Gallery and Glasgow School of Art.
