Internship opportunity at the National Martime Museum

Textile Conservation Intern

12-month contract

£19,200  

This is an outstanding opportunity for a recently graduated textile conservator to develop your skills and knowledge with our expert team. Under the guidance of the Head of Textile Conservation, your training will encompass the maintenance, conservation and restoration of a diverse range of objects within our world-renowned collections.

You will also learn to conduct assessments, produce condition reports and mounting textiles for display. Throughout the 12 months, you will record your progress and receive regular feedback on your performance.

Ideally qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in conservation, you should bring a good level of manual dexterity and familiarity with a wide range of materials and sewing techniques. Excellent communication, teamworking and IT skills are also important, together with the ambition to broaden your understanding and build your career.

Having recently opened the brand new Sammy Ofer Wing we are also planning a major renewal of our British Maritime History galleries, as well as preparing to host the 2012 Olympics equestrian and modern pentathlon competitions.  This is an exciting time to join us.
